On August 4th, Hyosung participated in ‘Remember 804’, commemorating the 2nd anniversary of North Korea’s land mine attach, held at Imjingak, Paju, Gyeonggi-do. Hyosung honored the morale of the 8 fallen soldiers, and conveyed the people’s respect and support to their family members. After the terrible incident occurred, Hyosung has supported and funded the ‘Filed of Peace’ project, honoring the fallen soldiers, initiated by Search Battalion of the I Corps, from planning to completion. During the ceremony, Chairman CHO Hyunjoon expressed his gratitude and respect for the dedication and sacrifice made by the soldiers committed to national security.
[Corporate General] Hyosung R&C Center, Win ‘Korea Engineer Award’ from Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning
On July 31st, the Nylon Polyester Yarn Research Team of Hyosung R&C Center won the 52nd Korea Engineer Award at the Korea Engineer Award Event co-held by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Korea Industrial Technology Association. Department Chief OH Seung-jin who led the development of optothermal nylon and polyester fabrics, was recognized for his achievements and contribution to the growth of Korea’s new material industry.

From August 28th to 30th, Hyosung participated in the 18th annual Preview In Seoul 2017 (the “PIS 2017”) held in COEX and Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas. Hyosung bolstered the largest exhibition square amongst all exhibitors and jointly operated the booth with 5 textile and weaving partners to help their marketing and sales activities. Throughout PIS 2017, Hyosung aggressively promoted its highly functional products including the stretchable spandex creora®, and other yarn, woven and dye products of nylon and polyester.

On July 26th, Hyosung participated in the ‘Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2017’ held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market is globally recognized as one of the top outdoor product exhibition, along with IWA & Outdoor Classics (Germany), and ISPO Munich (Germany). Textile PG draw the attention of spectators by displaying its new yarn brand and fabrics.
[Textile PG] Gumi Plant, Selected as best labor-management culture company of 2017
Gumi plant was selected as the best labor-management culture company of 2017 on July 5th, and received a certification plaque and certificate on August 17th from the Daegu regional labor office. Gumi plant has cultivated a mutually cooperative labor-management relations throughout numbers of programs including, executing a Social Responsibility Implementation Tripartite Agreement with the union, management and state government, exercising a degree-awarding work-n-learn project for the first time in the local community, and improving long-hour labor and supporting work-life balance. Its efforts to execute Contractor Sub-contractor win-win cooperation agreements in 2017, and conducting workplace innovation consulting were also recognized to contribute to a healthy labor-management culture.
[Textile PG] Gumi Plant, Joint fire drill to prevent and prepare massive fire disasters
On July 26th, Gumi Plant held a joint fire drill, replicating an actual fire disaster with the Gumi Fire Department. The drill was planned to help first responders adapt to the circumstances presented by large industrial complexes, and establish a sophisticated first response plan with the cooperation between Hyosung and the local fire department. Despite the harsh summer temperatures exceeding 35℃, the inter-corporate fire fighters of Hyosung and 40 fire fighters from the Gumi Fire Department, accompanied with 3 fire trucks, aggressively participated in the drill to accomplish a more effective and efficient first response.
[Chemicals PG] Yongyeon Plant, Selected as Good Company by Community Chest of Korea
On July 27th, Yongyeon plant held a signboard hanging ceremony for being selected as a Good Company by the Ulsan office of Community Chest of Korea. Secretary General BANG Seong-su, of the Community Chest of Korea praised the significance and heart touching of the donation made by the members of Yongyeon plant. He also expressed his gratitude to Yongyeon plants annually repeated donation of 3 million KRW (approx. 2,600 USD) to the less privileged of the local community (Seonam-dong) and to the local community security committee.
[Power & Industrial Systems PG] Power Systems PU, Best Practice for High-performance & Responsibility Management Innovation
On July 21st and 22nd, Power Systems PU held its Best Practice for High-performance & Responsibility Management Innovation event at the main summit hall of Changwon Plant. This event was held as part of the High-performance & Responsibility Management Innovation program commenced in 2015 to materialize a high-profit business structure and establish a self-compelled responsibility management system by changing the methods of work. In the latest installment, 67 projects lead by team leaders and 111 projects agreed upon field works and team leaders were executed, and 16 projects with remarkable outcomes were introduced.
[Power & Industrial Systems PG] Power Systems PU, 2017-1H Improvement Contest
On August 24th, the Power Systems PU held its 2017-1H Improvement Contest at the main summit hall of Plant 1. This year’s contest covers all productivity enhancing activities including eliminating the 7 major wastes, unreasonable work and unevenness. Same as the qualifying contest, 10 entries, advanced through qualifying competition, were assessed in 5 categories (Improvement, Creativity (Project Difficulty), Efficacy (Horizontal Expansion), Sustainability (Work Standard), Workability (Difficulty)).
[Power & Industrial Systems PG] Industrial Machinery PU, 2017-1H Improvement Contest
On July 20th, the Industrial Machinery PU held its 2017-1H Improvement Contest at the main summit hall of Plant 3. Since July 17th, he evaluation committee, consisting of directors, teal leaders and foremen, reviewed entries and evaluated each entry in 5 categories (improvement result, creativity, project contribution, sustainability, and workability). 8 of the 16 groups advanced from the qualifying competition, to be subject to the same standards of the qualifying round. The event concluded by awarding 1 grand prize (innovation award), 1 runner-up (improvement award), 2 excellent awards, and 4 remarkable entries. The 2nd half’s contest is scheduled for December.

On July 28th, the Power & Industrial Systems PU R&D Center held its 2017-1H Performance Report Session at the training center of STX Resort-Moonkyeong. In the attendance of the Head of R&D Center, directors, team leaders and front workers of each department, the performance of 1H was reviewed and outlook and plans of 2H were announced. Best practices from each operating process were announced and discussed to improve the overall operation and productivity of the R&D Center. The Power & Industrial Systems PU R&D Center is anticipating to implement more activities to facilitate an R&BD system which can continuously maximize the overall productivity.

From July 26th to 28th, Changwon Plant held a summer camp for children of employees between 11 and 16 years of age at Bluewin Resort in Gyeongju. Themed with ‘DODREAM’, children were encouraged to elaborate their dreams, draw up a Charactorama of him/her fulfilling his/her dream, and present their dreams through a drama and encourage each other. 61 children participated the summer camp, and the entire time was filled with experience activities, enjoying time in the adjacent waterpark, talent show, and visiting the nearby bird park.
[Information Communication PG] Hyosung Information System PU, Supply All-flash storage to Taihan Electric Wire
Following the Taihan Electric Wire’s decision to adopt all-flash storage, Hyosung Information System PU recently completed adapting Hitachi’s VSP F600. The said product displays high performance and stable data transfer, where Taihan Electric Wire announced that their ERP work process has boosted up 50%, and the program response time for each model also improved for more than 50%. Witnessing improvement in actual statistics helped make the customers more satisfied with Hyosung’s product.
[Independent Corporations] The Class Hyosung, ‘Mercedes SUV Lounge’ Event
From July 29th to August 11th, The Class Hyosung held the ‘Mercedes SUV Lounge Event’. This event was operated by Mercedes-Benz Korea at Surfer’s Beach in Yangyang Gangwon-do, a beach dedicated for surfing. The Class Hyosung invited over 80 customers from Seoul, Gyeonggi, Cheonan and Cheongju, in 2 separate groups, one on August 5th, and another on August 9th. Participants were entertained with various events including surfing lectures, barbeque parties, and DJ parties, along with a morning buffet on the second day followed with a yoga program.
[Independent Corporations] FMK Maserati, Open ‘Levante Showroom’ at Starfield Hanam FMK
From August 20th to September 3rd, FMK Maserati opened ‘Levante Showroom’ in the central atrium at the Starfield Hanam for 2 weeks. The genuine Italian taste was replicated in the showroom, and provided spectators to experience Maserati’s first ever SUV, Levante on first hand. Spectators were introduced to the vehicle and were able to have actual purchase consults, along with test driving opportunities.
100 million KRW donated to citizens with absence of welfare
On August 25th, Hyosung donated 100 million KRW (Approx. 88.5 thousand USD) to citizens with absence of welfare through the Community Chest of Korea. Hyosung decided to support over 100 million KRW, annually, to struggling households of the physically or mentally challenged, patients of incurable diseases, child and youth headed households, and multi-cultural households introduced in EBS-1 TV’s <Sharing 0700>. <Sharing 0700>, airing on every Saturday, introduces the stories of our neighbors who do not lose hope and battle their challenges of life. The show raises money through ARS participation and donates the funds to those whom in need.
Hyosung ITX, Visit institute for the physically and mentally challenged to exercise neighborly love
On August 5th, Hyosung ITX visited Gyonam Eoyuji Hill, a self-habilitating facility for those with physical or mental challenges, and lend their hands to harvesting their year-long cultivated crops. Gyonam Eoyuji Hill, helps those with physical or mental challenges to actually cultivate environmentally friendly agricultural products and support their healthy and sound work by the proceeds from the agricultural products and other incomes from the guesthouse. Hyosung ITX continues its efforts to help the community by regularly visiting homeless facilities to give out meals and donate air conditioners, and collaborate with welfare centers in the local community.
