National gymnast Yang Hak-seon, appointed as the honorary ambassador for the 1st Goodwill Store Hyosung, was the participant who received the most attention.
He is so devoted to his parents that he bought a house for them with the reward of the gold medal he won at the 30th Olympic Games. He had also shown hope that anyone can succeed by making efforts with constant dreams by overcoming his tough environment with strenuous efforts. He donated his autographed shoes and T-shirts to Goodwill Store Hyosung. Hyosung Vice President Jang Hyeong-Ok from Human Resources, who presented the appointment certificate of the honorary ambassador to Yang, announced Hyosung’s determination in the management of Goodwill Store Hyosung with a bright smile.
“I’m happy to
see how Hyosung went beyond merely supporting social enterprises and
established our own Goodwill Store Hyosung. We will make more efforts to
increase donations and promote sales so that more disabled people can enjoy the
opportunity to build their own lives.”
Goodwill Store is a social enterprise model that values ‘people, companies and the environment,’ providing 100,000 jobs by operating over 2,400 stores in 13 countries including the U.S. and Canada. The 1st Goodwill Store Hyosung is the first Goodwill Store directly managed by a company. The disabled and the vulnerable social group will work as employees, selling products donated to the store. The 1st Goodwill Store Hyosung is also the first social enterprise established by a Korean company in cooperation with the Together Foundation, the official Korean association for the global welfare foundation of Goodwill Store.
To open the 1st Goodwill Store Hyosung, our company has formed a TFT in November 2012 and promoted the establishment process by investing KRW 600 million for about a year. The 1st store hired 10 employees: 7 people from the vulnerable social group including the disabled, and 3 store managers. Hyosung employees are donating clothes and household items, and sports celebrities are also donating their possessions such as national rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae’s hoops, balls, ribbons and clubs as well as Park Chan-ho’s autographed baseball.
