The era of big data, the fourth industrial revolution is currently materializing right in front of our eyes. Hyosung has adopted big data industries to maximize energy efficiency and preserve environment preservation. These are several activities conducted by Hyosung to be titled as the leader of environmentally friendly energy.




 Pollutant emission-free, Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations.


 


The government announced its “3rd Basic Plan for Development and Distribution of Environmentally Friendly Vehicles” in last December, and is scheduled to announce its “Special Measures for Fine Dust Management” in June, revealing its plan to provide 10,000 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles and 100 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles charging stations all over the terrain until 2020. To keep up with this trend, the Power & Industrial Systems PG has supplied around 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) charging systems nationwide and 6 Hydrogen Gas Compressors including a Hydrogen charging system with an unprecedented maximum rated pressure of 700 bar in Seoul. In particular, the rated pressure of 700 bar satisfies the industrial demand for high-pressure recharging container capacity, and allows a faster and quantitatively larger recharging experience compared to other existing charging units.


Fuel Cell Vehicles can be charged within 3 to 5 minutes and can be driven over 400km once fully charged. Moreover, without any emission of pollutant caused by its fuel, hydrogen, fuel cell vehicles are anticipated to be the future of environmentally friendly vehicles. Hydrogen Gas, by-products generated in bulk from petro-chemical industrial complexes, is relatively cheap and good for the environment.




 Respond to Climate Change by Installing Greenhouse Gas Reduction Facilities


In 2009, Hyosung voluntarily participated in KVER (Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction), a greenhouse gas emission reduction performance registration project operated by the ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and successfully reduced over 130,000 tons of greenhouse gas emission prior to adoption of ‘Management by Objectives’ in 2012, the first Korean legislative restriction to reduce greenhouse gas emission through waste heat recovery. Hyosung was recognized to reduce an accumulative amount of 860,000 tons of greenhouse gas emission as early reduction performances in emission trading by conducting voluntary activities such as Sulfur Hexafluoride(SF6) gas recovery and reuse. 


In 2012, Hyosung conformed a task force exclusively focusing on climate change response to cement its internal administration, and thoroughly complying with governmental policies by meeting the allowable emission limits set forth by the government each year from 2012 to 2015. Hyosung also instituted a greenhouse gas reduction facilities with a budget around 12 billion KRW, and contributed to the revitalization of the domestic emission trading market by trading its 1.45 million tons of emission acquired by registering as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Business at the United Nations in June of 2011. 


Hyosung is also leading the development of environmentally friendly technology including premium efficiency motors which reduces greenhouse gas emission, low temperature processed yarn, yarns recycled from waste fishnets.




 Smart Grid, the Alternative for Climate Change and Resource Depletion


Smart Grid is an interactive power system by and between supplier and consumer, optimizing energy efficiency and generating new added values by integrating advanced IT technologies to the conventional chain of power generation, transmission and consumption. Smart Grid, the next generation intellectual power grid, is now emerging as the alternative to select in response to climate change and resource depletion. 


Once Smart Grid is commercialized, the consumption of power will be reported to the supplier in real time, allowing the supplier to optimize power generation. On the other hand, the Consumer, will also take advantage of the system by monitoring and controlling his/her power consumption depending on the electricity cost, and new possibilities to operate electric devices in time frames of lower electricity prices shall be unfolded. Hyosung is providing real time energy monitoring service in earnest at the Jeju Smart Grid Demonstration Project.




 Applying Big Data in the Fields of Electricity Transmission and Distribution


Energy Big Data is applied to deciding electricity generation, transmission & distribution and power plant locations. Positive effects are anticipated in reducing maintenance cost of expensive facilities by forecasting facility malfunctions and immediately identifying the cause of any errors which may occur during operation with the help of analysis of vast data. 


Especially, Hyosung is in the focus of the global market as a total energy solution provider in the global transmission & distribution industry by integrating IoT technologies in the globally recognized power business. The project maximizing energy efficiency will be completed with the application of the IoT Information and Communication technology of the Power & Industrial Systems PG and Hyosung ITX.
